After a Twitter argument with some of the songwriter/producer's followers, Anita Baker stated that Babyface would no longer be her support act for the remainder of her North American tour.
"After Silently, Enduring Cyberbullying/Verbal Abuse and Threats of Violence from the Fan Base of Our Special Guest/Support Act," Baker tweeted for personal safety on Tuesday, June 13.
The Songstress Tour will continue on its own, just me. Refunds will be issued in a time bound manner.
Baker's rep did not immediately respond to Rolling Stone's requests for comment.
In a statement to Rolling Stone, Babyface said, "I am disappointed by the news that Anita Baker has chosen to remove me from 'The Songstress Tour.'"
While I'm looking forward to the rest of the show, I have nothing but love and respect for Anita, and I wish her luck as she continues her tour.
The announcement came after Baker spent much of the past two days getting into a heated online debate with babyface supporters and possibly firing a few shots at the babyface.
The play was the focus of a performance in May at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
According to reports at that time, there were some technical issues due to which the show was delayed by a few hours.
When everything was ready to go, it was decided that Babyface's set would be called off so that Baker would have enough time to do his headlining set.
